Reviews
Nice decent size camp site. Owners are helpful and can give you plenty of information on the area. Camping is a good price. Facilities are basic but I suppose if you're camping you don't need much more. Nice ground to pitch your tent. The place is very easy to find and the signs are well visible.
Simple, back-to-basics campsite. Good sized, well looked after site with plenty of parking. The location is superb and views of the surrounding area are marvelous. Loos and showers are decent with showers costing £1 for 7 minutes
I would like to start this review like a gentleman with some good points.
1 the people that run it are nice and approachable.
2 you can arrive quite late.
3 it is a perfect location for doing the Yorkshire three peaks.
Bad points!
There is only one shower for men and one shower for women, which you also have to pay £1 pound to use (but know one makes you aware of this). Also said showers are borderline a violation of your human rights! There is no hot water, they barely work and are very run down and dirty. I served in the Infantry and even I was surprised.
I will finish as I started with some positives. The grass was lovely and green 👍
For penny Ghent or 3 peaks this campsite is perfectly placed in the heart of Horton in ribblesdale. No fluff, basic needs met with toilet and shower block etc. Great cheap price
We chose this site as our base camp for the 3 peaks challenge.
This is a quality campsite that has a wealth of history and local knowledge freely given by Big Chris, with tent and camper options the later with or without electrical hookups.
The tireless work Little Chris does to ensure that this facility is kept to a high standard is evident and greatly appreciated.
Other campers can be the issue with not following the 2300 no noise/no fire ruling but policing that is hard work for the team.
There are 2 showers that are £1 for 5 minutes.
There are 3 wash points for dishes
2 local pubs offer drinks and food
We will most definitely be back here again, thanks to the two Chris' for making our 3 peaks challenge a good stay.
Basic facilities but nice site. Golden Lion pub takes dogs but has an appalling level of reviews regarding hospitality and service and quality of food. We chose to cook at the tent. Ideally placed to do the 3 peaks but take your own food. Cafe along the road was shut while we were there. Showers need a 1 pound coin. Overall we liked the site and location.
Lovely clean campsite. A twelve minute walk from the station. The owners we’re super friendly. It was quite cheap as-well. For one person two nights (no car) it was £14. The washing station even had fairy liquid and sponges.
Very accessible, easy walk from the station. Good, generally clean facilities with provision of toilet roll, washing up liquid and sponges to clean with. £1 for a 7 minute shower and there are 2 showers available in the unisex area and another 1 in the men's and 1 in the women's so you have the option of remaining in a women only area if preferred (although the shower there is a little dingier). There are bins in all the women's toilets and things like toilet roll and blue roll are regularly updated; it's also clear the communal areas are regularly cleaned. There are no reliable shops in the area so if you're not driving, make sure you bring everything you need otherwise you'll need to go all the way to Settle. There are two pubs nearby, but during the week the opening times are a little unreliable.
There is a urinal in the unisex area, which seemed like an odd choice, and the women's shower is a little dingy. Otherwise, a really lovely campsite set amongst some beautiful scenery.
